PAUL COLBY

Paul Colby published a political thriller titled Can You Tell Me Where He’s Gone? The book is available in print and as an Ebook.

CHRISTA GALA

For the second year in a row, Christa Gala will lead 11 students to NC State Prague in July for her “Fake News and Conspiracy Theories” short course and to tour Radio Free Europe. Gala hopes to make this a permanent course for 2025.

JIM KNOWLES

Jim Knowles attended the Sewanee Medieval Colloquium, April 5–6, where he delivered a paper called “Allegorical Persons in Architectural Space: Lady Meed at Westminster and Piers the Plowman’s Office.”

On April 12, he gave a talk on “Piers Plowman and Timber-Framed Architecture” as part of the NCSU English Department’s Faculty Seminar series. 

BILL LAWRENCE

Bill Lawrence has been appointed chief publisher of a literary press and will be transitioning the press to be based out of Raleigh. More details and news on open submissions will follow next month.

He also started a podcast series titled the Purpose Tree Podcast focused on interviewing writers, artists, thinkers, entrepreneurs, and change makers. Episodes are now streaming on Spotify and Apple. The videos will follow on YouTube in May.

Lawrence will host the 38th annual NC State Young Writers Workshop this summer. Applications and scholarships for young writers ages 9–18 are open until June. Help spread the word around the community! 

GENE MELTON

With Mae G. Henderson (emerita, UNC-Chapel Hill) and Jeanne Scheper (UC-Irvine), Gene Melton co-edited The Specter and the Specter: Afterlives and Archives in the African Diaspora, a collection of essays due out from Rutgers University Press in May. Former NC State faculty member Sheila Smith McKoy contributed a chapter, as did NC State alumna Danielle Fuentes Morgan.

MAGGIE SIMON

Maggie SImon received an Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award for 2023–24.

TIM STINSON

Tim Stinson participated in the “New Directions in Molecular Palaeography” workshop, held at Fuglsang Herregaard, Denmark, April 17–20.

FIONA WANG

Fiona Wang presented “Creating Inclusive Language Spaces: A Framework for Second Language Teacher Education Curricula” at the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (AAACS) conference, held April 7–10.

Wang received a “HOWL Faculty Seminar Mini-Grant,” which supports faculty professional development and course improvement.
